Our philosophy
It is the philosophy of Jan Juc Preschool that children be encouraged to learn and grow through a play-based curriculum that reflects the individual and unique nature of every child, and respects and encourages each child’s different learning styles and ways of knowing and understanding.
We welcome, accept and respect the cultural backgrounds, beliefs, needs, interests and the abilities of our staff and the children and families who make up our kindergarten community. Our aim is to provide an inclusive learning environment and promote a sense of belonging for everyone to facilitate best outcomes for children. At Jan Juc Preschool we have implemented Child Safe Standards and as educators we strongly believe in a culture of child safety to ensure, to the best of our ability, that children are protected emotionally and physically at all times.
We value the indoor, outdoor and bush kinder learning spaces as equally important. We believe in supporting children to respect and value nature and actively promote sustainability and a sense of ‘wonder’, creativity and free thinking in all our environments. Our centre strongly promotes healthy eating and we are a member of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program.
We believe children learn best through meaningful play. Meaningful play encourages curiosity, discovery and problem solving which allows individual growth and development of a positive self-image. Educators actively participate/supervise and extend children’s play to enhance positive learning outcomes, including resilience and happiness. Our play-based, child centred curriculum reflects the principles and practices of the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework.
We recognise that parents are a child’s first teacher and we aim to form a learning partnership with families by encouraging them to be involved in this centre and to share their skills, knowledge and interests with us. We value this family/preschool connection just as we also value our connection with the wider Jan Juc community, offering experiences that gradually expand children’s knowledge and understanding of their world.
We aim for the children’s learning to be a progressive journey and acknowledge the process rather than the end product. We aim to make this learning visible to families through journals, reflection books and EDUCA. We believe that having high expectations for each and every child, regardless of their abilities, leads to best possible practice and ensures best possible outcomes for every child. We believe developing positive relationships with other Early Childhood Professionals and regularly attending Professional Development sessions supports our continual growth as Early Childhood Educators.
Most importantly we want everyone, every year, to have FUN in a safe and nurturing environment.
